Men's Basketball Holds Off St. Mary's, 93-89

BALTIMORE--Six Bengals scored double figures and three had double-doubles as Buffalo State (7-2) held off a late St. Mary's (5-6) rally to claim a 93-89 win in the opening game of the Blue Jay Invitational tonight hosted by Johns Hopkins University.

Buffalo State used a 12-0 run in the middle of the opening half to race to a 51-41 lead at the intermission. The Seahawks used a 11-3 run of their own close the gap to three with 12 seconds to play in the game, but Buffalo State added a late free throw to seal the win. The two teams combined for 55 turnovers. Buffalo State outscored St. Mary's 54-42 in the paint.

James Williams (Brooklyn/William Grady) led the Bengals with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Dion Mozelle (Rego Park/Xaverian) added 11 points and 11 boards, and Carlton Guiden (Bronx/Wade Hampton) had career-highs with 13 points and a school record 10 steals. Jobany Tirado (Syracuse/Corcoran) added 18 points, Dante Griggs (Bronx/Chester Academy) had a career-best 15, and Gregg Jones (Syracuse/Nottingham) had 12.

Buffalo State will play host Johns Hopkins in tomorrow's championship game at 4 p.m.
