Buffalo State will open its 2012–2013 season on Friday, October 19, at home when it welcomes the Division I Penn State Nittany Lions to the Ice Arena for a 7:00 p.m. faceoff.

Penn State is playing its first season as a Division I independent and will join the newly formed Big 10 Hockey League next season. After establishing a legacy as one of the most successful club hockey programs in the nation, Penn State elevated to Division I status this season after receiving an $80 million donation from Buffalo Sabres' owner Terry Pegula.

The Nittany Lions are playing a mixed schedule this season including games against high-end Division I opponents including Michigan State, Wisconsin and Vermont, Division III opponents, and club teams. Penn State opened its new era this past weekend with a pair of overtime games against Division I American International, falling 3-2 in the opener, before winning the second game 4-3.

Buffalo State is looking to build on the best season in program history a year ago. The Bengals set a school record with 13 victories, and advanced to the SUNYAC semifinals for the first time, falling in triple-overtime to eventual conference champion Plattsburgh.

Tickets for Friday's game will be sold at the door for $5. Buffalo State students with ID will be admitted free.

The night will kick off with a student tailgate party outside the main entrance to the Ice Arena. Hosted by Student Life and Athletics, students will enjoy free food and refreshments, bubble hockey, and music.
