Men's Hockey Tops Potsdam, 5-2
POTSDAM, NY--Michael DeMarco (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) and Johnny Duco (Toronto, ON/Cardinal Newman) each had a goal and two assists as Buffalo State (9-8-2/3-4-1) defeated host Potsdam (5-14/3-5), 5-2, in a SUNYAC game tonight at Maxcy Hall.
Jesse Adair (Brampton, ON/North Park), Justin Merritt (Burlington, ON/Blessed Trinity) and Paul Michael Rivest (Whitby, ON/Henry Street) also scored for the Bengals, while sophomore Richard Curtis (Ottsville, PA/Pennridge) tallied two assists.
The Bengals took an early 1-0 lead on a shorthanded goal just four minutes into the first period and tallied their second of the game on the power play at the 11:10 mark to go up by two. Potsdam responded a minute and a half later, scoring with the man advantage to cut the lead to one. Buffalo State added its third goal of the period in the 18th minute, to take a 3-1 lead. The Bears would again cut the deficit to one in the final minute of the first stanza, but the Bengals scored two goals in the second frame to seal the victory.
Buffalo State’s Sean Sheehan (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) recorded 36 saves in the win.
The Bengals continue their North Country trip with a 7 p.m. face-off tomorrow at Plattsburgh.
