Men’s Soccer Rallies Past New Paltz, 3-1

BUFFALO, NY—Freshman Tony Schiappa (Williamsville/ Williamsville East) tallied a goal and an assist to lead Buffalo State (3-3-1/1-2) to its first SUNYAC win of the season over visiting New Paltz (0-7/0-3), 3-1, today at Coyer Field.

The Hawks took the early lead on a goal by Sean Reminick (E. Meadow/E. Meadow) in the eighth minute with assists from Justin Thompson (Babylon/Babylon) and Joe Rose (Seaford/Seaford). Schippa pulled the Bengals even in the 26th minute one-timing a cross from Joshua Mitchell (Schenectady/S. Colonie).

Junior Gary Luniewski (Bethpage/E. Meadow) put the Bengals ahead just 1:06 into the second half, redirecting a pass from Stephen Galante (Tonawanda/Canisius). Zackary Eastman (Perrysburg/Lakeshore) added an insurance marker in the 69th minute on a set up by Schiappa.

Buffalo State outshot the Hawks, 19-10. Dan Corti (Amawalk/Somers) made four saves in goal for the Bengals. Peter Carmel (Lake Ronkonkoma/Stony Brook) had nine stops for New Paltz.

Buffalo State will next travel to RIT on Tuesday for a non-conference game.
