Sophomore Justin Muise (Kenmore/Kenmore West) and freshman Mercedes Roper (Buffalo/City Honors) will represent Buffalo State at this weekend's NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Muise will compete in the 400-meter dash, as he currently holds the seventh fastest time in the nation with a clocking of 48.95. He has already captured SUNYAC and New York State Championships in the event this season, and was just .05 seconds shy of matching the Buffalo State record set by Neil Hall in 1983.

Roper has only competed in one meet this season, but made the most of it as she captured SUNYAC Championships in the 55-meter and 200-meter dashes and set new school records in each event. Her time of 7.27 in the 55-meter dash qualified her among the top-16 times in the nation, earning her a berth in the National Championship meet this weekend.

Muise and Roper will be accompanied by Head Coach Eugene Lewis to Wisconsin-Whitewater on Wednesday, and will compete in the prelims on Friday evening. Finals will be held on Saturday. The top-eight finishers in each event are dubbed All-Americans. Buffalo State's last male track and field All-Americans were Daryl Brownlee and Lamar Smith in 1986. Buffalo State has never had a female athlete earn All-America status in track and field.
