The Burchfield Penney Art Center in partnership with the Pappy Martin Legacy Jazz Society will host a master drum clinic with renowned drummer, composer, and educator Nasar Abadey on Saturday, July 30, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the center’s Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Auditorium. Admission to the class is $6.
Abadey will also perform at the closing day of the annual Pappy Martin Legacy Masten Jazz Festival, Sunday, July 31, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on the lawn of the Buffalo Museum of Science (1020 Humboldt Parkway). The jazz festival is free and open to the public.
An instructor of jazz percussion in the Jazz Studies Department at Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, Abadey also leads the group SUPERNOVA which blends world rhythms, bebop, and fusion.
Based in Washington, DC, Abadey has built a solid reputation as a sideman and has recorded and/or performed with such jazz legends as Ella Fitzgerald, Pharoah Sanders, and Sun Ra.
Abadey has appeared at jazz festivals around the globe and won countless awards and honors for music education and performance.
