In the News: Alumnus Is Drawing Attention with Buffalo Coloring Book

Word of Buffalo’s renaissance is spreading far and wide. Publications ranging from the New York Times to Travel and Leisure have recently hailed the Queen City as a major destination for relocating, visiting, and, of course, learning.

Similarly, a book by Western New York native, artist, and teacher Mitchell Grosofsky, ’15, is drawing media interest.

Welcome to Buffalo: The Coloring Book, features 32 detailed renderings of the city's historic architectural landmarks—City Hall, the Darwin Martin House, and Buffalo State’s adjoining Richardson Olmsted Complex, to name a few. Grosofsky’s illustrations are presented in black and white, allowing readers to shade the outlines themselves.

“I began making the coloring book as a small personal art project just for fun,” Grosofsky told Buffalo Rising. “Being that Buffalo has had a huge upswing over the past years and locals are very passionate about the city, I began to think that a book was tangible and went for it.”

The book is part of an increasingly popular trend of coloring books that are suitable for adults.

“People are looking for something that is an easy stress reliever they can do anywhere,” Grosofsky told the West Seneca Bee. “You end up creating something that looks nice.”

Now in its second printing, the book is available through Amazon, Etsy, local retailers, and Grosofsky’s Facebook page.
