SUNY Buffalo State Art Conservation alumna Patricia Favero, ’02, contributed to a rare discovery that art conservators dream about—a hidden painting underneath one of Pablo Picasso’s first masterpieces, “The Blue Room.”
Favero was prominently featured in a June 17 USA Today article about her role in piecing together the image of the man’s face..
Favero, conservator of the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., and other art experts and scientists used advances in infrared imagery to revel a man with his face resting on his hand underneath the 1901 painting.
Additionally, Jennifer Mass, one of the scientists who worked on the painting, taught conservation science in the Buffalo State Art Conservation Department from 1998 to 2001.
