Buffalo State will hold its ninth annual Veterans Day Silent March on Thursday, November 9, at noon. The Silent March has become one of the college’s traditions; it honors members of the Buffalo State community who have served in any branch of the United States military or allied forces.
The marchers—present or past members of the United States military or allied forces, their spouses and dependents, and first responders—will leave Chase Hall at noon and proceed in silence to the American flag in front of Campbell Student Union. Participants can assemble at Chase Hall at 11:45 a.m.
Following the national anthem and the pledge of allegiance, Brad Baumgardner, coordinator for Veteran Services, will welcome marchers and guests and introduce Margaret Shaw-Burnett, associate vice president for Continuing Professional Studies. Father Patrick Zengierski of the Buffalo State Newman Center will offer the opening invocation.
The United States Air Force Honor Guard from the 914th Air Refueling Wing from the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station will conduct a flag-folding ceremony.
Alumna and noted watercolorist Rita Argen Auerbach will introduce this year’s Military Service Scholarship recipient, Lewis Williams. Williams is majoring in political science. The late Richard Auerbach was a leading member of the Armed Forces Alumni, which helps to fund the scholarship.
Following the brief ceremony, a reception will be held in the Caudell Hall reception area.
Buffalo State has been named a Military Friendly School by Victory Media. The Silent March is presented by Continuing Professional Studies, which includes Veterans and Military Services; the Alumni Association; and the Buffalo State chapter of the Student Veterans of America.
