NYS Teacher of the Year Presents Keynote at PDS Consortium Conference

The School of Education will hold its 23rd annual Professional Development Schools (PDS) Consortium conference on Friday, September 29, at the Adams Mark Hotel.

The conference, which will be held at the Adams Mark Hotel in Buffalo, will present Amy Hysick, the 2017 New York State Teacher of the Year, as the keynote speaker. Hysick, who is certified in both biology and chemistry, teaches in the North Syracuse Central School District at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.

Following her presentation, participants choose four sessions to attend from an offering of 20. The topics include engagement strategies, use of iPads in first grade, integrating creativity in the classroom, and content-based professional development for New York State science learning standards.

Buffalo State students, including student teachers and students who have worked and studied in the international PDS schools, are among the presenters. Students will also present their own research in a poster session. Participants and presenters are drawn from classroom teachers, administrators from K-12 schools, Buffalo State faculty, and representatives from partnering institutions and other colleges.

Buffalo State’s PDS, founded in 1991, has been recognized nationally for excellence by the National Association of Professional Development Schools. For 2017–2018, the PDS Consortium theme is “engaged partnership.”
