Oswego Outshoots Men’s Basketball, Eliminates Bengals from Playoff Contention

BUFFALO, NY—Six Oswego (18-6/12-4) players scored in double-figures as the Lakers eliminated Buffalo State (8-15/5-11) from SUNYAC playoff contention with a 92-67 victory in the regular season finale today at the Sports Arena.

Kyle Reuter (Mexico/ Mexico) and Tommy Downing (Staten Island/ Curtis) led the attack with 20 points each. Mahamoud Jabbi (Bronx/ Alfred E. Smith) had 16 points and 12 boards, and Dom White (San Francisco, CA/ Trinity-Pawling) had 13 points and 14 boards. Nick Perioli (Liverpool/ Liverpool) and Dave Gardner (Wellsville/ Wellsville) added 10 points each.

Dion Mozelle (Rego Park/ Xaverian) led Buffalo State with 16 points and eight boards in his final game as a Bengal. James Tyndal (Bronx/ Msgr. Scanlon) added 13 points, and Jamar Gray (Rochester/ Bishop Kearney) scored 10.

After an early slim advantage for the Bengals to open the game, Oswego pulled ahead and then used a 21-3 run to claim a 54-30 halftime advantage. Buffalo State mounted a small rally in the second half, but never cut the deficit to fewer than 14. Oswego outscored the Bengals, 27-0, from 3-point range.

Buffalo State will miss the playoffs for the first time since 1998 and just the second time since the SUNYAC founded the tournament in 1981.
