BUFFALO, NY--Buffalo State College Athletics held the Fifth Annual “Kids' Night Out” program on Friday evening at the Sports Complex and welcomed record numbers with 226 inner-city youngsters participating in this year's event.

Buffalo State's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) ran the free program that attracted City of Buffalo students from third through fifth grades as well as the WNY Girls in Sports program.

Nearly 150 student-athletes representing all 19 Buffalo State varsity athletic teams were on hand to mentor the boys and girls on techniques in various sports as well as focus on the ideals of teamwork and sportsmanship. The students rotated through nine different "play stations" that included kickball, dodgeball, soccer, track and field, football, basketball and more.

“The Kids' Night Out program is a great event for us to interact with kids from the community and give them a chance to see what it is like to be a student-athlete,” said Krystyna Markut, a junior on the Bengals' cross country and track teams. “I think the student-athletes had as much fun as many of the kids getting to know them and participating in the games."

The Buffalo State CHAMPS program and SAAC have several events scheduled for the remainder of the semester, including the a DWI Spreaker on March 26, the "Athletics Advantage: Scoring Big in Your Career" on April 24, Take Back the Night on April 27, and National Student-Athlete Day on May 4.
