Great Lakes Center Seminar:

“The effects of the zebra mussel invasion on aquatic ecosystems: the Hudson River and beyond”

by Dr. David Strayer, Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, Millbrook, NY

This presentation will describe the dynamics of the zebra mussel invasion of the Hudson River estuary, and the large effects of this invasion on the plankton, sediment-dwelling animals, water chemistry, and fish communities of the river. The talk will also discuss how the effects of an invader like the zebra mussel vary from ecosystem to ecosystem, and might change over time as a result of changes in the invader or the host ecosystem.
