Smart Growth: What's in it for the Inner City - Regionalism and the Implications for City Officials
The Burchfield-Penney Art Center is pleased to announce that Erie County Executive Joel Giambra will participate in a panel discussion, "Smart Growth: What's in it for the Inner City" on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at 7:00 pm as part of the "Smart Growth and Choices for Change" exhibition's "Smart Growth Tuesdays" series.
The discussion will identify why the implementation of regionalism and smart growth policies are important to cities and what can be done to address the concerns of elected city officials and their constituents when such practices are initiated.
The moderator will be Michael C. Clarke, program director, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (Buffalo, NY). Don Chen, executive director, Smart Growth America (Washington, DC) and Julie Seward, director, state policy and smart growth, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (Washington, DC) will provide a national perspective with regard to smart growth and regionalism, including how cities across the country are implementing such policies. Vincent Tilford, senior program director, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (Detroit, MI) will focus on how Detroit is implementing smart growth practices, and County Executive Giambra will share his views on regionalism and economic development as it pertains to the City of Buffalo.
The event will take place at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center, Rockwell Hall, Buffalo State College, 1300 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo, NY. Admission is free (voluntary donations appreciated).
The "Smart Growth Tuesdays" lecture and panel discussion series runs from April 22 to June 24 in conjunction with the showing of the National Building Museum's exhibition "Smart Growth and Choices for Change" at the Burchfield-Penney from April 4 to June 29.
