Softball Drops Pair to Geneseo

Buffalo State (17-5/6-4) suffered a sweep against visiting Geneseo (13-8/7-3), falling 5-2 and 11-5 today at Bengal Field.

In the opener, Geneseo scored four runs on four hits in the top of the first inning. Buffalo State responded with two runs in the bottom half, on a two-run single by Emily Goldyn (Lancaster/Lancaster), scoring Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) and Nadine Sirianni (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls). Geneseo added an insurance run in the fifth inning, and Buffalo State could only manage three hits for the game, and just one after the first inning. Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster/Lancaster) took the loss on the mound, striking out six and allowing five hits and four earned runs.

Buffalo State opened the scoring in the second game with a run in the top of the first inning, but Geneseo answered with six in the second and third. After Buffalo State clawed its way back in the game with three runs in the fifth inning, the Knights immediately responded with a five-run inning of their own that included a grand slam and a solo-homer. The Bengals added a single run in the seventh to complete the scoring. Sirianni led the Bengals’ bats, going 3 for 4 with an RBI. Lauren Mruk (Lancaster/Lancaster) was 1 for 3 with an RBI, and Hutten had the only other hit for the Bengals. Lauren Wright (Westfield/Westfield) took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs, three earned, in four innings.

Buffalo State will play at Cortland on Friday at 3 p.m.
