Softball Earns Critical Sweep at Geneseo

GENESEO, NY—Buffalo State (19-11/11-5) picked up a pair of important wins over host Geneseo (12-14/9-7), 3-2 and 4-1, today at Vic Raschi Field, to stay in the thick of the SUNYAC playoff race.

The Bengals rallied from an early two-run deficit in the opener with a pair of runs in the fifth, and scored the winning run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale). Twin sister Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) added an RBI double, and Jessica Mooney (Tonawanda/ Kenmore West) was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/ Frontier) earned her 11th win of the season on the mound, scattering nine hits and allowing just two runs.

Buffalo State converted just five hits into four runs in the second game to complete the sweep. Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/ Williamsville North) held the Knights in check, allowing just six hits and one run in the complete-game win. Nicole Maher (Waterloo/ Waterloo) paced the Bengals’ bats, going 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Buffalo State will host first-place Cortland in another conference twin bill tomorrow.
