Softball Falls to Oneonta to Open SUNYAC Championships

Oneonta scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to upset second-seeded Buffalo State, 3-0, in the opening day of the double-elimination SUNYAC Championships today at Cortland.

Fifth-seeded Oneonta plated their its three runs on three hits and one Bengal error in the first extra inning. Buffalo State put a pair of runners on base with one out in the bottom half of the inning, but could not make a comeback. Liz Beiter (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) took the hard-luck the loss for the Bengals despite throwing seven shutout innings and scattering seven hits and allowing just one earned run. The Bengals bats had just four hits, with two singles each coming off of the bats of Alyssa Brosius (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) and Nadine Sirianni (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls).

Buffalo State fell to 24-13 and will face elimination against top-seeded Cortland tomorrow at 10 a.m. Cortland defeated Plattsburgh, 3-0, in its opening game today. Oneonta improved to 24-13 and will play the loser of Fredonia/Geneseo tomorrow at noon.
