Softball Picked Second in SUNYAC Coaches' Preseason Poll

Buffalo State was selected to finish second in the 2004 SUNYAC Coaches' Preseason Poll earning 83 of 100 possible points.

Buffalo State returns players with starting experience at eight of the nine positions, as it will look to claim its first conference title since the 2000 season. The Bengals posted their 10th 20-win season a year ago, finishing 25-15 overall, and 14-6 in conference, but were unable to earn a victory in the postseason tournament.

Seniors Tiffany Ciolek (Limestone/Salamanca), Liz Beiter (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) and Nicole Willats (Tonawanda/Sweet Home), and juniors Heidi Rammacher (Angola/Lakeshore) and Nadine Sirianni (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) have all earned All-SUNYAC honors during their careers and will look to lead the Bengals this season. The addition of Division I-transfer Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster/Lancaster) to the mound should help solidify the Bengals as legitimate contenders for the school’s fourth conference title.

Buffalo State will open its 2004 campaign in Ft. Myers, FL on March 17 with a pair of contests against Lasell (MA) and Montclair State (NJ). The Bengals are scheduled to begin their conference slate on March 31 with a home double-header against Fredonia.

The complete SUNYAC Coaches' Poll is as follows: 1. Cortland (100); 2. Buffalo State (83); 3. Oneonta (80); 4. Geneseo (76); 5. Brockport (64); 6. Plattsburgh (61); 7. Fredonia (45); 8. SUNYIT (36); 9 Potsdam (23); 10. Oswego (21); 11. New Paltz (16).
