Softball Pounds SUNYIT in Doubleheader

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (10-2/2-0) plated 18 runs in a two-game sweep of visiting SUNYIT (1-9/0-2), winning 7-0 and 11-0 in five innings at Bengal Field today to open SUNYAC play.

Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier) extended her record to 7-0 in the opener, striking out 19 and allowing just two hits as the Bengals won 7-0. Lauren Mruk (Lancaster/Lancaster) paced the offense, going 2 for 3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Freshman Christina Tschari (Clarence/Clarence) went 3 for 3 with an RBI, Jenna Schwartzmeyer (Williamsville/Williamsville South) was 2 for 3 with a run scored, and Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) was 1 for 3 with a solo homerun.

In the second game, Buffalo State jumped out to an early lead, scoring six runs on two hits and four errors in the second inning, and never looked back in the 11-0, five-inning victory. Hutten was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) added a two-run homerun, and Tschari had a pair of RBIs. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) earned the win, allowing just one hit in four innings, and Schwartzmeyer threw one inning of no-hit relief.

Buffalo State will next host Brockport for another conference doubleheader on Tuesday starting at 3 p.m.
