Buffalo State (12-2/3-1) split a SUNYAC doubleheader today at Brockport (10-4/2-2), winning the opener 4-2, but falling in the nightcap, 3-2.

In the first game, the Bengals capitalized on a pair of Brockport errors in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie and take a 3-0 advantage. The Golden Eagles closed the gap to 3-2 in the top of the sixth, when they scored twice with the aid of two Buffalo State errors. The Bengals added an insurance run in the sixth, however, and held on for the win. Lindsey Matheis (Hamburg/Williamsville South) was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 1 for 2 with a double and an RBI. Senior Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster/Lancaster) improved to 6-0 on the mound, allowing just three hits and striking out seven.

In the second game, Brockport opened the scoring with a three-run fourth inning. Buffalo State rallied with a pair of runs in the seventh on a run-scoring double by Matheis and a sacrifice fly by Banach, but could not score the equalizer. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) was 1 for 1 with a double and a pair of walks. Melissa Balsavage (Depew/Depew) suffered her first defeat of the season, allowing three runs on four hits in three innings.

Buffalo State is scheduled to host RIT tomorrow in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
