Softball Trio Adds Regional Accolades

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its All-Region softball teams today, recognizing three Buffalo State players on the All-Northeast team. Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) and Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/ Frontier) earned second team honors, and Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/ Kenmore West) was selected to the third team.

Banach, a sophomore health and wellness major, played every game at third base this season and finished as the Bengals' leading hitter with a .407 season average. Banach also led the team with 12 doubles, was third with 22 RBIs and also added three home runs.

Fisher, a sophomore biology major, led the Bengals' pitching staff with a 14-4 record and had a 2.01 ERA and broke her own single-season strikeout record with 161. Fisher was also a force at the plate, hitting .353 with 15 RBI and four homeruns, including three at the SUNYAC Championships.

Hutten, a senior sociology major, started every game at second base and hit .388 with a team-best 52 hits from the leadoff position. Hutten added power to her repertoire this season, hitting six homeruns, after hitting only two in her first three years. She also had five doubles, three triples, 19 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.

Buffalo State finished third in the SUNYAC and posted an overall record of 27-11.
