Students Attend Presidential Inauguration

A group of Buffalo State students and faculty traveled to Washington, D.C., to attend the Presidential Inauguration, held January 21.

Students left campus on Sunday, January 20, for a whirlwind journey to the nation’s capital and returned to Buffalo State early Tuesday morning.

The trip was organized by political science major Muhammed Sumbundu, College Council student representative and student assistant in the President's Office.

"The inauguration was one of the most exhilarating days of my life," said Sumbundu. "It was such a wonderful feeling to be with people from all walks of life to witness and celebrate the second inauguration of the first African American president."

The trip was sponsored by the Campus Life, Student Life, and Vice President for Student Affairs offices.

Current students weren't the only members of the Buffalo State community to attend the inauguration. Alumna Debbera Ransom, '80, marched with the United War Veterans Council.

“It was an awesome experience,” Ransom told the Buffalo News. “To see the president in the presidential booth watching us and putting his hand over his heart—my goodness, my eyes started to water.”

Like the current students who traveled through the night to witness this historical event, Ransom boarded a bus filled with fellow veterans early Sunday morning. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," she told the New York Post.
