SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher today announced that she will recommend the appointment of Aaron M. Podolefsky as the next president of Buffalo State College at the March 23 meeting of the SUNY Board of Trustees.

Following a national search, Podolefsky was the overwhelming choice of the Buffalo State College Presidential Search Committee and College Council. If approved by the Board, Podolefsky’s appointment would be effective July 1, 2010.

Podolefsky currently serves as president and professor of anthropology at the University of Central Missouri, a position he has held since 2005. During his tenure as president, Podolefsky is credited with significantly raising the university’s academic profile, earning rankings among the best colleges and universities in the Midwest, as recognized by the Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.

If approved by the Board, Podolefsky would succeed Dennis K. Ponton, who has been serving as interim president since August 1, 2009, when Muriel A. Howard stepped down to assume the presidency of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C.
