Swimming and Diving Men Top Fredonia

Several Buffalo State swimmers took first place finishes as the Bengals competed at Fredonia earlier this afternoon. The men’s team defeated Fredonia 117-79, while the women’s team fell 128-115.

Sophomore Eric Hastings (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) posted a first place finish in the 1000-free with a time of 11:09.66 and a first place finish in the 500-free with a time of 5:15.62. Sophomore Derek Stoklosa (West Seneca/West Seneca West) also took first place with a time of 1:57.65 in the 200-free while freshman Kevin Buisman (Rochester/Penfield) finished the 200-IM with a time of 2:11.06, earning first place. Freshman Vince Wasneechak (Fairfax,VA/Lemoore) finished first in the 100- fly with a time of 1:00.43. Junior Mike Luther (Blasdell/Frontier) took first place in the 100- back with 1:00.57. Stoklosa, Hastings, Luther and junior Dave Papke (Woodlawn/St. Francis) took first place in the 200- free relay with a time of 1:34.82.

On the women’s side, senior Marie Ryer (Buffalo/Huch Tech) took two first place finishes this afternoon. Ryer took first in the 50- free with a time of 26.25 and first in the 100- free with a time of 58.02. Sophomore Mindy Wood (Middlesex/Marcus Whitman) swam to a first place finish in the 200- IM with a time of 2:28.80, while freshman Sara Weinert (South Byron/Byron-Bergen) took first in the 500- free with a time of 5:30.97. The women’s 200- free relay team, consisting of Ryer, Weinert, freshman Katie Perusich (Kenmore/Kenmore East) and sophomore Susan Stiner (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls), posted a first place finish with a time of 1:47.36. Freshman diver Amanda Dory (Amherst/Sweet Home) took first place on the 3-meter board, posting a score of 203.35.

The men’s team advances to 3-1 overall while the women fall to 2-3. The Bengals will compete at Gannon on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 1 p.m.
