Swimming and Diving Sweeps Brockport for Pair of Winning Seasons
BROCKPORT, NY—Buffalo State’s swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet at Brockport today, clinching winning seasons for both the men’s and women’s teams in the same season for the first time in modern history. The women prevailed 124-103, and the men won 121-109.
Mindy Wood (Rushville/Marcus Whitman) led the Bengals’ women, touching first in three individual events, winning the 1,000 free (11:23.92), the 400 individual medley (4:49.21) and the 500 free (5:39.25). Sarah Garasz (Lancaster/Lancaster) earned a pair of victories, claiming the 200 free (2:06.03) and 100 free (57.87). Miranda Warner (Elmira/Horseheads) won the 200 back (2:19.09), Megan Farrell (Akron/Akron) touched first in the 200 fly (2:40.72), and Amanda Dory (Amherst/Sweet Home) captured the 1-meter dive (216.80).
On the men’s side, Derek Stoklosa (W. Seneca/W. Seneca West) was the first to win an individual event, pacing the 200 free (1:54.28). Scott Banks (N. Tonawanda/Niagara Wheatfield) touched first in the 200 fly (2:17.95), Eric Hastings (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) claimed the 500 free (5:17.62), and Tim Harroun (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) won the 200 breast (2:24.97).
The meet concludes the regular season for both the women (4-3-1) and men (4-3). Both teams will now switch their attention to preparing for the season-ending SUNYAC Championship meet that will be held at the Flickinger Center on the Erie Community College downtown campus on Feb. 7-10.
