Swimming & Diving Downs Morrisville
BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each defeated an undersized Morrisville squad, as the women topped the Mustangs, 105-55, while the men won 102-58. This season marks the first year of NCAA Division III competition for the Mustangs, as the program is making the transition from the junior college ranks.
With many swimmers competing in multiple exhibition events, Nate Mirizio (Liverpool/Liverpool) touched first in both the 1,000 free (11:25.60) and 500 free (5:29.82). Mike Luther (Hamburg/Frontier) also touched first in the 200 IM (2:13.94) and the 100 fly (59.18). Also finishing first for the Bengals were Kyle Benedict (Elmira Heights/Horseheads) in the 50 free (23.84); Vince Wasneechak (Gorham, ME/Lemoore) in the 100 back (1:03.07); Tim Harroun (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) in the 100 breast (1:06.00) and Lance Thornton (Hastings/Hastings) in the 100 free (52.46). Also, Matt Clark (Amherst/Sweet Home) recorded a score of 273.05 in one-meter diving.
On the women’s side, Jolene Terwilliger (Elmira/Elmira Free Academy) paced the Bengals finishing first in two events, the 200 free (2:11.55) and the 100 back in a time of 1:12.04. Other Buffalo State winners included Meg Farrell (Akron/Akron) in the 200 IM (2:32.79); Ashley Remmes (Grand Island/Grand Island) in the 100 fly (1:14.65); Sarah Garasz (Lancaster/Lancaster) in the 1,000 free (12:40.04); Miranda Warner (Elmira/Horseheads) in the 100 free (1:01.03); Susan Stiner (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) in the 500 free (6:14.68) and Mindy Wood (Rushville/Marcus Whitman) in the 100 breast (1:20.44). Whitney Orlando (Getzville/Williamsville North) scored 251.95 off the one-meter board (11 dives).
Buffalo State will be back in action next Saturday when the Bengals host Oswego in the final home meet of the season.
