Tennis Star Works Out in Buffalo State Sports Arena
Elena Dementieva, the No. 8-ranked women's tennis player in the world in the most recent WTA Tour rankings, conducted a private workout this morning in the Buffalo State Sports Arena.
Dementieva, in town visiting her boyfriend and Buffalo Sabre Maxim Afinogenov, used the on-campus facility to train with her coach. Dementieva has been ranked as high as sixth in the world rankings. Her career highlights include winning a silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics where she fell to Venus Williams, and in 2004, she reached the finals of both the French and US Opens.
Dementieva has five WTA singles titles and six doubles crowns to her credit and is widely regarded as the "best player never to win a slam".
