After making its way from Rwanda to Buffalo, When the Walls Come Down—Truth! will be staged in New York City, where Buffalo State students will perform the play twice.
The first performance of When the Walls Come Down—Truth! will take place on Saturday, October 6, at 9:00 a.m. as part of the Performing the World 2012 conference at the All Stars Performance and Development Center on 42nd Street. People from all around the world are scheduled to attend this conference whose theme is: Can performance save the world?
The cast’s second performance will take place at SUNY Global, a specially designed facility for an innovative twenty-first-century global experience. Here, students and teachers from all around the world can come together through video and technology to learn and help one another. "This is the SUNY system's headquarters for international technology collaborations," said Drew Kahn, theater professor. "We will have an incredible international audience."
"It’s an amazing experience to travel with the entire cast," said senior theater major London Lee. "It allows us to perform on more than just a stage. We’re allowed to perform real life events and experiences."
The Buffalo State Theater Department collaborated with the Anne Frank Project and Mashirika Performing Arts to create When the Walls Come Down—Truth! The play premiered in September at the Anne Frank Project 2012. This play was inspired by a two-week trip Buffalo State theater students made to Rwanda in January.
