Track and Field Competes at Brockport Invitational
Buffalo State joined Brockport, Fredonia, RIT, Rochester and St. Lawrence today at the Brockport Invitational, as its athletes earned victories in eight events in the non-team scored meet.
Ken Ciolek (Bradford Area) led the Bengals with four first place showings, capturing the long jump (6.26m), triple jump (13.21m), high jump (1.87m) and javelin (51.64m). Justin Muise (Kenmore West) crossed first in the 400m hurdles in 56.73. Mike Taylor (Maryvale) placed second in the triple jump (12.51m), and Rob Kozlowski (Iroquois) was second in the discus (38.79m). Chris Lape (Millbrook) added a pair of third place showings in the 400m dash (52.97) and the javelin (45.13), and Tim Giagios (Gates-Chili) was third in the 400m hurdles (58.10).
On the women's side, Mercedes Roper (City Honors) won the 100m dash in 12.78, and Desi Gibson's (Edison Tech) leap of 4.92m was enough to win the long jump. Roper and Gibson also teamed with Linda Williams (Edison Tech) and Keyia Thompkins (Edison Tech) to win the 4x100m relay with a time of 49.71. Jackie Kirsch (East Aurora) and Sarah Gedraitis (Akron) finished third in the triple jump (9.45m) and the discus (34.12m) respectively.
Both teams will return to action on April 17 at the Penn State Open.
