Track and Field Competes at NYSCTC Championships
The track and field teams competed at the NYSCTC Championships held at the University of Rochester this weekend. The men finished ninth of 14 teams while the women placed 14th of 15 teams.
The men's team was highlighted by a state championship title in the 110 meter hurdles. Richard Harris (Rochester/Hilton) took first in the event with a time of 14.57, earning a state title. Other highlights from the men came as Ken Ciolek (Limestone/Bradford Area) placed in the top five in three events. Ciolek took fourth in both the long jump with a jump of 6.59 meters, and in the javelin throw, clearing 49.78 meters. He also tied for fifth in the high jump, recording 1.86 meters.
Tim Giagios (Rochester/Gates-Chili) placed third in the 400 meter hurdles, clocking in at 54.85. Joe Wooley (Amherst/Sweet Home) cleared 13.03 meters in the triple jump and finished fourth. Todd Wassinger (Sanborn/Starpoint) placed eighth in both the shot put with a season's best of 14.11 meters and in the hammer throw, throwing a distance of 43.40 meters.
On the women's side, Jenelle Orosz (North Tonawanda/North Tonawanda) finished fifth in the high jump with a distance of 1.59 meters.
The track and field teams will return to action next weekend when they travel to the University of Akron on Friday, May 13.
