Track and Field Competes at SUNYAC Championship

Jenelle Orosz (NorthTonawanda/North Tonawanda) jumped to a new school record in the high jump as Buffalo State’s indoor track and field teams competed in the SUNAYC Championship at Hobart today. The men’s team placed sixth of eight teams with 30 points, while the women's team placed eighth of eight teams with 17 points.

Orosz placed second in the high jump, clearing 1.63 meters, breaking the previous school record she set earlier in the season. The score was also a NCAA Provisional qualifying score. The other highlight of the day on the women’s side was the distance medley relay team consisting of Krystyna Markut (Depew/Lancaster), Jamie Abbott (Pulaski/Pulaski), Deirdre Blanke (Niskayuna/Colonie) and Jenny Vacanti (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield). The team placed fourth with a time of 13:47.37.

On the men’s side, Justin Muise (Kenmore/Kenmore West) took a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 51.34. The men’s distance medley relay team of Shane Reynolds, Josh Mitchell, James Howze (Amherst/Sweet Home) and Dan Hargrave (Dansville/Dansville) took home a fourth-place finish with a time of 11:02.54. Ken Ciolek (Limestone/Bradford Area) cleared 1.93 meters in the high jump, posting a fourth-place finish, while Geremy Barnwell (Syracuse/Nottingham) earned a fourth-place finish in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.63

Buffalo State will return to action Saturday, Feb. 26 at RIT for the NYSCTC Championship.
