Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season in Georgia

Buffalo State opened its outdoor track and field season this weekend at the Emory Classic in Atlanta, GA, on the campus of Georgia Tech, this weekend. The men's team placed seventh of 29 teams with 43 points, while the women finished tied for 19th of 25 with eight points.

Justin Muise (Kenmore West) highlighted the men's side, capturing the championship in the 400m hurdles (53.34) and finished second in the 400m dash (47.93). Ken Ciolek (Bradford Area) also had a strong meet, placing second in the javelin (53.49m), third in the high jump (6'5") and fifth in the triple jump (13.58m). Rob Kozlowski (Iroquois) added points in the discus (7th/38.74m) and the hammer throw (8th/40.09m), and Tim Giagios placed seventh in the 110m hurdles (16.49).

Two records fell on the women's side, as Sarah Gedraitis (Adron) broke a 10-year-old mark in the hammer throw with a distance of 31.09, and the 4x100m relay team eclipsed an 18-year-old mark with a time of 49.65, good for seventh. Mercedes Roper (City Honors) also finished sixth in the 100m dash (12.63), and Jackie Kirsch (E. Aurora) placed sixth in the triple jump (9.85m).

Buffalo State's next meet will be the University of Rochester Invitational next Saturday.
