Two Buffalo State school records were broken today as Buffalo State’s indoor track and field teams competed at the Mt. Union Invitational. Jenelle Orosz (N.Tonawanda/N.Tonawanda) broke the school record for high jump while Richard Harris (Rochester/Hilton) broke his own school record on the 55-meter hurdles.

Orosz finished first in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 4 inches, breaking the old school record of 5 feet 3 inches held by Celestine Coley in 2003. The other highlight on the women’s side was sophomore Mercedes Roper’s (Buffalo/Performing Arts) first place finish in the 55-meter dash, clocking 7.58.

On the men’s side, Harris continues his record-breaking ways by surpassing his own school record in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.59. Ken Ciolek had two top-five finishes. He took second place in the long jump, clearing 21 feet 4 inches and fourth place in the high jump at 6 feet 2 inches. Nathaniel Alston (Rochester/Edison Tech) finished in third behind Ciolek in the long jump, clearing 20 feet 10 inches. John Tammaro (Cheektowaga/St. Mary’s) took fourth place in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:12.58, while James Howze (Amherst/Sweet Home) finished fifth in the 800-meter dash, clocking in at 2:07.33.

Buffalo State will return to action Saturday, Feb. 19 at the SUNYAC Championships at Hobart.
