Track and Field Teams Show Early Success at Mt. Union

Buffalo State's track and field teams competed in their second meet of the year today at the Mt. Union Invitational, and both teams posted several impressive showings. The men's team placed second of 10 teams with 132 points, and the women finished sixth of nine teams.

Justin Muise (Kenmore/Kenmore West) helped propel the men's team to the second place showing, as he finished first in the 400m dash with a time of 49.52, second in the 300m dash in 35.77, and ran a leg of the winning 4x400m relay (3:32.87). Rookie Ken Ciolek (Limestone/Bradford Area) also posted multiple top finishes, winning the triple jump (42' 3.75"), and placing second in the high jump (6' 4.75") and second in the long jump (20' 6.75"). Buffalo State's Michael Taylor (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) earned the victory in the long jump, leaping 21' 6.25". Tim Giagos (Rochester/Gates-Chili) added a second place showing in the 500m dash (1:08.54) and James Howze (Amherst/Sweet Home) crossed second in the 800m run (2:02.00).

On the women's side, sophomores Linda Williams (Rochester/Edison Tech) and Keyia Thompkins (Rochester/Edison Tech) finished first and third respectively in the 55m dash in 7.49 and 7.82. Other top finishes included Jackie Kirsch (East Aurora/East Aurora) in the triple jump (2nd/31' 10") and Jennifer Vacanti (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) in the 1500m run (6th/5:18.20).

Both teams will compete this Friday at the Ohio Northern Invitational.
