Women's Basketball Rallies Past Plattsburgh, 53-47

BUFFALO, NY—Jacey Brooks (Machias/Franklinville) had 13 points and nine rebounds and Buffalo State (5-11/2-5) rallied from an 11-point deficit to defeat visiting Plattsburgh (4-10/2-5), 53-47, in a SUNYAC game today at the Sports Arena.

Gina Apa (Buffalo/McKinley) added 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals for the Bengals. Shareese Hamer (Erie, PA/Strong Vincent) chipped in 10 points.

Detina Santiago (Connetquot/Dowling College) led Plattsburgh with 14 points. Casey Clark (Athens/Coxsackie-Athens) had seven points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, and Vanessa Arthurton (Troy/Troy) had 11 boards.

Plattsburgh used some hot shooting to jump out to an 11-point lead midway through the first half. Buffalo State closed the opening period with a 9-3 run to trail just 30-26 at the intermission. The Bengals carried the momentum into the second stanza, using a 10-1 run to open the period and take the lead for good. The Cardinals cut the deficit to one point on a couple of occasions, but they were only able to score one point in the final three-plus minutes of the game. Buffalo State shot 34-percent from the field, and Plattsburgh hit 29-percent of its field goal attempts.

Buffalo State will host Geneseo on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
