Women's Basketball Topples Fredonia, 61-50; Playoff Hopes Live On

BUFFALO, NY—Gina Apa (Buffalo/Mckinley) matched her career high with 17 points, helping Buffalo State (7-17/4-11) keep its playoff hopes alive with a 60-51 victory over visiting Fredonia (9-12/5-9) in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Sports Arena.

Senior Jacey Brooks (Machias/Franklinville) scored 13 points in her final home game as a Bengal. Toya Parks (Brooklyn/MLK) added 10 points and four steals. Senior Darnika Moseley (Liverpool/Liverpool) had six points and eight rebounds in her return to the lineup after missing the last eight games with an ankle injury.

Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North) and Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) each recorded double-doubles to pace the Blue Devils. Kindzia had 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Bleecker had 13 points and 11 boards.

Buffalo State used an 18-2 run in the later part of the first half to stake claim to a 29-21 advantage at halftime. The Bengals led by as many as 12 in the second half, but Fredonia climbed back in the game and cut the deficit to just two at 50-48 with 4:15 remaining. The Bengals scored their final eight points from the free throw line to seal the win. The two teams combined to commit 44 fouls and 51 turnovers in the game.

Buffalo State will wrap up its regular season with a "must win" game at Oswego on Saturday at 6 p.m.
