Women’s Basketball Works OT to Beat Geneseo, Parks Scores 1,000th

GENESEO, NY—Toya Parks (Brooklyn/ MLK) became the 11th Bengal to score 1,000 career points as visiting Buffalo State (8-14/4-9) completed the season sweep of Geneseo (12-12/10-5) with a 65-58 overtime win in a SUNYAC game this afternoon at Schrader Gymnasium.

Parks led the Bengals with 19 points and six steals, bringing her career scoring total to 1,016 points. Barb Kiliszek (Depew/ Lancaster) added 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and five steals. Shareese Hamer (Erie, PA/ Strong Vincent) and Lindsay Smith (Ithaca/ Ithaca) chipped in 11 points each.

Buffalo State jumped out to an early 13-3 lead and led 37-28 at halftime. Geneseo chipped away at the lead in the second half and finally took its only lead of the game at 52-51 with 2:18 remaining. The Bengals pulled ahead by one with 1:39 remaining on a jumper by Parks, but the Knights evened the score at 53-53 to end regulation. Buffalo State opened overtime with a 6-0 run and never looked back, claiming the seven-point win, despite being outrebounded 52-31 for the game. Geneseo committed 35 turnovers, compared to just 18 by the Bengals.

Buffalo State will host Fredonia on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
