Women's Hockey Falls in Overtime in Season Opener
Buffalo State opened its season today at Cortland in a non-conference game, and lost 4-3 in overtime.
Janelle Schmitt (Arlington, WA/Northwest Admirals) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal 4:09 into the game, but Cortland evened the score late in the opening period. The Red Dragons scored the only goal of the second stanza, but Emma Wadsworth (Arlington, VA/Reston Raiders) knotted the score at 2-2 early in the final frame with assists from Schmitt and Nicole Jewell (Fenton, MI/Honeybaked). Sophomore Amanda Uschold (Rochester/Rochester Edge) scored her first career goal midway through the period to put the Bengals ahead. Schmitt added the lone assist. Cortland lit the lamp just 1:01 later however, and then scored again 2:27 into the overtime period to claim the victory. Mary Keddie (Williamsville/Buffalo Bisons) made 32 saves as the Bengals were outshot 36-27.
The same two teams will face-off again tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
