Women's Hockey Falls to Utica, 4-1
Three first period goals catapulted Utica (11-6-1/4-4) past host Buffalo State (3-10-1/0-7), 4-1, today in an ECAC West game at the Ice Arena.
The Pioneers opened the scoring just 3:04 into the game. Utica extended its lead with two goals in 19 seconds late in the opening period. Utica scored the only goal of the second period to take a 4-0 lead.
Buffalo State broke the shutout with 18 seconds left in the game on a goal by Leah Eyerman (Mountaintop, PA/Wyoming Seminary) with assists from Mary Cohen (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) and Jessica Thieme (Roselle, IL/Lake Park).
Shannon Anesetti (Cannonsburg, PA/Caron-McMillan) made 38 saves as the Bengals were outshot 42-16.
Buffalo State and Utica will face-off again tomorrow at 1 p.m.
