Women’s Hockey Rallies to Tie Cortland, 2-2

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (2-2-2/1-2-2) scored two goals in a span of 52 seconds early in the third period to rally for a 2-2 tie against visiting Cortland (1-4-2/0-3-1) in an ECAC West contest tonight at the Ice Arena.

Cortland opened the scoring with a power-play goal by Nicole Ruddy (Utica, NY) 16:37 into the opening period, and extended its lead to 2-0 when Heather Crowley (Brasher Falls, NY) scored just 1:17 later.

Marissa McMullan (Haileybury, ON) finally got the Bengals on the scoreboard just 19 seconds into the third period. Kristen Bozek (Buffalo, NY) evened the score with a slap shot from the point at the 1:11 mark. Sam Simpson (Fairbanks, AK) assisted on both Buffalo State goals.
Buffalo State outshot Cortland, 39-19. Shannon Anesetti (Canonsburg, PA) made 17 saves for Buffalo State, and Melissa Stern (Shoreham, NY) had 37 stops for the Red Dragons.

The Bengals will host Cortland again tomorrow at 2 p.m.
