Women's Hockey Skates Past Adrian, 4-2

BUFFALO, NY—Julie Ruszala (Cheektowaga/ Lancaster) scored two goals and Mary Cohen (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) had a goal and an assist to lift Buffalo State (3-5-2) to a 4-2 win over visiting Adrian College (9-4) in a non-conference game tonight at the Ice Arena.

The Bulldogs got on the board first, scoring in the sixth minute of the first period, before Ruszala evened things for Buffalo State less then two minutes later with assists from Kristin Bozek (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) and Alex Papineau (Stoney Pointe, ON/St. Anne). The Bengals added two more goals in the second frame by Cohen and Marissa McMullan (Haileybury, ON) to take a 3-2 lead after two periods of play. Ruszala scored her second of the night on the power play at the 4:42 mark of the third stanza to complete the scoring. Tonya Ford (Williamsville/Williamsville East), Casey Bull (Lockport/Lockport), Mariah Fairgrieve (Ft. Erie, ON/Lakeshore Catholic), and Jackie Blanchard (Delmar/Bethlehem) also picked up an assist each.

Both teams finished with 24 shots on goal. Buffalo State was 2 for 12 on the power play. Shannon Anesetti (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) had 22 saves for the Bengals.

Buffalo State and Adrian will face off again tomorrow at 4 p.m.
