Women's Hockey Tops RIT, 3-1
BUFFALO, NY--Buffalo State (3-3-1) skated past RIT (2-1-0) with a 3-1 victory in the Bengals' home opener tonight at the Ice Arena.
RIT opened the scoring when Stacey McConnell scored with just 2:10 remaining in the opening period. Buffalo State struck just 27 seconds into the second frame to even the score at 1-1 with a power play goal by Amanda Uschold (Rochester/Brighton). Nicole Muszynski (Southgate, MI/Southgate Anderson) put the Bengals ahead later in the period. Melissa Jeckovich (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) added an insurance goal early in the third period, and Buffalo State held on despite being outshot 16-4 over the final 20 minutes.
RIT held a 32-24 advantage in shots on goal. Buffalo State's Shannon Anesetti (Cannonsburg, PA/Caron-McMillan) made 31 saves for her third win of the season. Mary Cohen (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) added three assists for the Bengals.
Buffalo State will host Plattsburgh on Saturday in its ECAC West opener at 12 p.m.
