Women’s Lacrosse Holds Off Villa Julie, 15-13

OWINGS MILLS, Md.—Senior Leah Bernal (Marilla/Iroquois) scored four goals, and Buffalo State (5-0) remained unbeaten on the season today with a 15-13 victory in a non-conference game at Villa Julie (4-7).

Shantel Ackley (Baldwinsville/CW Baker) added three goals for the Bengals. Molly Seifritz (Syracuse/Henninger) and Kristen Lindner (Webster/Webster Thomas) each scored twice, Katie Lyons (Williamsville/Williamsville North) had a goal and two assists, and Erin Silky (Liverpool/Liverpool) notched a goal and an assist. Katie Henderson (Lakeview/Frontier) and Stephanie Georgopolous (Pt. Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) also scored. Kember Greco (Southampton/Southampton) chipped in two assists.

Buffalo State never trailed, leading 9-5 at the intermission. The Bengals built the lead to 15-8, before Villa Julie scored the final five goals of the game in the closing 5:01. The Mustangs held a 35-32 advantage in shots. Villa Julie finished 5 of 14 on free position attempts, as Buffalo State was just 1 of 5. Katie Rivers (Watertown/Watertown) played the entire game in goal for the Bengals, making 13 saves.

Buffalo State will remain in the Baltimore-area to take on St. Mary’s on Monday at 4 p.m.
