Women's Lacrosse Opens With Win at RIT, 12-11

ROCHESTER, NY--Buffalo State (1-0) scored five-consecutive goals in the second half to edge host RIT (0-1), 12-11, today in the season-opener for both teams.

Buffalo State jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the Tigers rallied to even the score at 3-3 at the intermission. RIT built a 9-6 advantage midway through the second frame, but Buffalo State responded to take the lead for good, and hold on for the narrow victory. The Bengals outshot RIT 36-19.

Shantel Ackley (Baldwinsville/CW Baker) led Buffalo State with four goals and an assist. Chelsey Frail (E. Rochester/E. Rochester) and Leah Bernal (Marilla/Iroquois) each had two goals and an assist. Erin Silky (Liverpool/Liverpool) added a pair of goals, Meagan Powers (Pearl River/Pearl River) had a goal and an assist, and Jenn LoPresti (Tonawanda/Sweet Home) scored the eventual game-winner with 4:32 remaining.

Buffalo State will travel to West Palm Beach, Fla. on Saturday for three non-conference games, the first of which scheduled for Sunday against Bowdoin.
