Women's Lacrosse Stays Undefeated with an 8-4 Victory Over Fredonia
Buffalo State improved to 4-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the SUNYAC with an 8-4 win over Fredonia today at Coyer Field. Fredonia dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the SUNYAC with the loss.
SUNYAC Player of the Week Chelsey Frail (Hilton/East Rochester) led all scorers with six goals, while sophomore Leslie Perrault (Johnson City/Maine Endwell) and freshman Leah Bernal (East Aurora/Iroquois) each added a goal for the Bengals.
Fredonia tallied the first goal of the game at the 10:35 mark on a shot from junior Katelyn Ferry (Lancaster/Lancaster). Four minutes later Frail would tie the game and then score less then a minute later to put the Bengals up 2-1, a lead they would not relinquish. Perrault's goal made it 3-1 before Frail scored twice more to put Buffalo State up 5-1. Fredonia scored at the end of the first half to cut the lead to 5-2 at the start of the final frame. Bernal's goal put the Bengals up 6-2 as Buffalo State was able to hold off the Blue Devils attack for the win.
Ferry led the Blue Devils with two goals, Sara Potter (Pittsford/Pittsford Sutherland) and Aimee Baxter (East Rochester/East Rochester) each tallied a goal for the Blue Devils.
Buffalo State goaltender Katie Fels (Williamsville/Williamsville East) improved her record to 4-0 with a nine-save effort in goal. Fredonia's Sarah Kretz (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) made six saves in the loss. The win marked the first time in the programs history that Buffalo State has gone 4-0 and had a four-game winning streak.
The Bengals will look to extend their winning ways on Thursday for a 4:00 p.m. game against Allegheny at Coyer Field.
