Women's Relay Sets School Record at Case Track & Field Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio--Buffalo State's women's 4x200m relay of Jill Meister (Tonawanda/Tonawanda), Toya Edwards (Brooklyn/Clara Barton), Chelsea Prophet (Buffalo/daVinci) and LaVonne Barfield (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) finished first and set a new school record (1:50.32) today at the Case Western Invitational. The women's team placed eighth of 12 teams, and the men finished sixth of 10 teams.

The men's 4x200m relay of Mario Hicks (Corning/Corning West), Elvis Bream (Lockport/Lockport), Jason Veit (Shirley/William Floyd) and Joe Russell (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) also finished first with a time of 1:32.42. Tim Diegelman (Clarence/Clarence) and Jenelle Orosz (N. Tonawanda) also had first-place finishes in the high jump, clearing 1.83m and 1.57m respectively.

Other strong individual performances on the men's side were turned in by Ray Shadowens (Troup, TX/Arp) and Hicks, who placed second (7.88) and third (7.91) respectively in the 55m hurdles. Joe Wooley (Amherst/Sweet Home) also placed third in the triple jump (12.84m).

On the women's slate, Kelly Tooley (N. Syracuse/CNS) placed fourth in the 20 lb. weight throw (12.20m), and Tiffany Aaron (Rochester/Wilson Magnet), Jameieka Price (Niagara Falls/Aviano American) and Prophet finished fourth (7.74), fifth (7.77) and sixth (7.79) respectively in the 55m dash.

Buffalo State will be in action again tomorrow at the Mt. Union Invitational.
