Women's Soccer Blasts Alfred to Finish Season

Buffalo State closed out its 2005 season today with an 11-0 trouncing of visiting Alfred University, earning the Bengals their first winning season since 1985 with a final record of 8-7-2.

Buffalo State's all-time leading scorer Gina Monaco (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) led the onslaught with five goals and two assists. The 12-point game brought her 71-game career totals to 76 goals and 175 points, more than twice as many points as any other player in school history.

Fellow senior Liz Jacobsen (Gresham, OR/Sam Barlow) also closed out her career in memorable fashion, scoring four goals and two assists. Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) and Katie Johnson (Cohocton/Wayland-Cohocton) each added single goals for the Bengals.

Prior to the game, Buffalo State held a ceremony to honor seniors Monaco, Jacobsen, Melisa Petre (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) and Becky Sommer (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda).
