The Buffalo State Women’s Soccer team improved its overall record to 5-5-1, and 2-3 in the SUNYAC with a 3-1 win over conference opponent New Paltz today at Towers Field. With the loss the Hawks drop to 1-9-1 overall and 0-6 in the SUNYAC.

Freshman Tina Semertzides (Wappinger Falls/Roy C. Ketchum) scored the eventual game winner on a header off a corner kick from senior Amy Drozen (Williamsville/Williamsville East). The Bengals jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute when sophomore Gina Monaco (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) faked out a few Hawk defenders and beat New Paltz goalie Maggie Fenton. The Hawks tied the game before Semertzides blasted the game-winner in the 40th minute. Monaco added another goal 15 minutes into the second half to seal the Bengals victory.

Goaltender Jessica Bingerman (Great Valley/Ellicottville) had 11 saves in the win for the Bengals. The Bengals were outshot 18-11 by the Hawks.

Buffalo State returns to action on Friday October 10, for a SUNYAC road-game against Plattsburgh at 3:30 p.m. The Bengals will take on conference opponent Potsdam at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11.
