The campus community has the opportunity to see the best creations of the Design Department faculty during a mixed media exhibit that opens October 31 and runs through November 9 in the Czurles-Nelson Gallery in Upton Hall.
Design Faculty Exhibition 2012 features the artwork of more than 15 faculty members who teach in ceramics, fibers, metals/jewelry, wood/furniture, communication design, and design foundations. All full-time and adjunct instructors were invited to submit their work, said Sunhwa Kim, assistant professor of design, who is coordinating the show.
The purpose of the annual exhibit is to showcase how active faculty members are in their own research, scholarship, and creative activity, noted Robert Wood, professor and chair of the Design Department.
"You will see a wide variety of material, design, and artistic approaches employed through the creative work presented by the faculty," Wood said. "Each of our faculty is expert in his or her discipline. Using time-honored techniques as well as new technologies, the work in the exhibition demonstrates the expressive character and personal vision of the individual maker. Please stop by and see what they have to say."
Along with Kim and Wood, the faculty artists include: Gevork Arutunian, Jozef Bajus, Melissa Crowell, Stanley Friesen, Dawne Hoeg, Darien Johnson, Bethany Krull, Gerald Mead, Tara Nahabetian, Richard Ross, Stephen Saracino, Scott Swales, Carol Townsend, and Jesse Walp.
A reception will be held November 8 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the gallery. It is free and all are invited to attend. For more information, call (716) 878-4768.
