11th Annual Bengal 5K Run & Fun Walk
Exercise your "Bengal Spirit", put on your running or walking shoes and gear up for the Buffalo State College Alumni Association's 11th Annual Bengal 5K Run and Fun Walk, to be held Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. on the Buffalo State College campus. Proceeds from this event benefit the Alumni Association's Legacy Scholarship Fund, a scholarship awarded annually to a deserving student who is a child or grandchild of a Buffalo State graduate.
Pre-registration will run through March 12, 2008, at a cost of $18, general; $16, Buffalo State faculty, staff, or alumnus; $10 student (any age). The fee increases after March 12. A special pre-registration discount for groups of ten or more Buffalo State Faculty/Staff members and students representing a sports team, residence hall, club and/or organization, is being offered. This is a Champion Chip timing race and T-shirts will be given to the first 450 registrants.
Our race is the second leg of the Queen City Triple Crown race series. Participate in the Chilly Challenge 5K on February 24, the Bengal 5K on March 15, and the Shoes for the Shelter 5K on April 6 and have a chance to win special awards based on cumulative times earned through participation in all three of these races.
Following the run/walk, enjoy great food and beverages, fellowship and fun at the popular Post-Race Bengal Brunch and a chance to win fabulous door prizes. Awards will be given to the top overall male and female runner, the top three male and female runners in a variety of age groups, and the top male and female Buffalo State faculty/staff, alumni and student runners. Special awards are being given to the student group with the largest number of race participants, the student group with the largest number of volunteers, the Buffalo State faculty/staff team with the fastest time (based on the top five finishers), and the Buffalo State faculty/staff team with the largest number of participants (runners, walkers, and volunteers).
Mylous Hairston, ’86, news anchor at WIVB-TV, will shoot the starting gun at 9:30 a.m., and Howard Simon, ’84, host of WGR-AM 550 sports radio’s morning show, will serve as master of ceremonies at the post-race party.
